Very decent results from a smaller company , forgiveness equal to any CB iron out there and better than a lot of game improvement irons ,its not the fastest iron face but 12-15% less $ than most of its competition.
A more than solid first attempt at making irons, really anyone could put them in the bag and actually would be considered an upgrade from many mainstream premium manufacturers offerings..... 👍
My mission is to find the best clubs (that I can hit) that have zero Chinese components. Easier said than done, I know, especially since I'm fairly certain that any club that has the word "forged" or "players" in its name is beyond my dwindling skill set.
Jay, thanks for another outstanding club review! Your methodologies of using differing swing speeds and strike locations on the face are far and away the best anywhere. And now, coupled with the heat map performance results displays, you have made it so much easier to narrow down the field when I am ready for my iron fitting. Just wish i could convince my wife that I need to fly to England to see you for a fiitting!
Perfect expression of what a good review will do , its not going to tell you the best club for you , but testing clubs is stressful and tiring and being able to get a smaller list you have to test is awesome.
Hi bud, thanks so much for the kind feedback. I put an awful lot of effort into the videos, the collection of data and the editing. The AGN Members community have also helped in shaping the format and production of the videos to ensure they are as clear and as insightful as possible. You are always welcome in the UK, although I've stepped away from mainstream Coaching and Custom Fitting now so only do appointments for special people.... I'm happy to add you to that list 😉👍🏻👍🏻
Second the compliments on your three speed reviews, which are unique. They provide a word to the wise about how long an iron they can effectively use, which is a tremendous service.
Really glad you enjoy the format, its a load of work doing all the data sets and it would be so much easier making an on course video that really shows nothing but entertainment 👍
@@AskGolfNut Or some negative handicapper hitting a dime-sized area on the face of some butter knives telling me how easy these Miura MB-101s are to hit.
Glad you enjoyed the video, always trying to push boundaries with the testing and illustrating it in a way for you guys to be able to take that knowledge into your own games and how a particular club may affect you. Really nice irons.... Looking forward to seeing the Drivers etc that I head may be on the cards... 😊👍🏻
Another good review. The analysis of swing speed and forgiveness always welcome. Probably my addled brain but not sure what the forgiveness graphic was showing but think it was indicating a wide sweet spot??
Basically the larger the green the better. As the gradient moves from green to red it has a corresponding percentage 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6% and so on and that then show you what potential drop off you will get in distance from miss strikes on the club face 👍🏻
that's a reasonable issue to have. it would be hard to recommend somebody new to golf buying these as first time clubs. but if you've been playing golf for awhile and know what kind of clubs you need to play these have performance better than some of the $200-300 an iron brands.
Recently starting using the vice golf balls as cheap alternative for a high compression ball, goes nice and far and much better to put with than the kirkland
Even though the Kirkland ball got a hammering from the like of MGS, I used to love the high spin balls for seniors as with their swing speed, spin actually is something that they need to find. Agree though that for a faster swing speed player, the high spin balls can very much hinder your golf 👍
Feel I would put the 245s basically top of the list for the Players Distance category in feel...Its a Mizuno and sometimes I think they may risk in the future messing the design up of an iron with the constant push for Feel... Hasn't happened yet but it could, but the VGI01 Irons do very very well. Forgiveness I would have to look onto the Master Compare sheet that my RUclips Members have access to to answer these very questions....👍
@@AskGolfNut thanks for answering! I love your analytic approach when testing irons, and I would not mind a little more personal preferences and opinions to shine thru in the videos! Keep the good work up!
@yunDiie I've been slaughtered over the years by giving my opinions, and being honest it's true, my role on RUclips contrary to popular thought is not as an influencer but an educator so viewers can make better more informed decisions when they are parting with their hard earned money.... 👍🏻 But I'll try and sneak in the odd preference once in a while 😉😊👍🏻
its a hollow body so it can only go up against the 245, i would say the VG is more toe biased and the 245 more heel. the 245 is fractionally longer, but is also 1 degree stronger so it might be a wash.
Absolutely the Pro 245....the 245s are smaller in statue and have a bit more in the way of aggressive internal tech but it would be interesting to do a head to head one day...... 👍🏻
Not entirely sure that's absolutely true, Andy you have put a lot of work into its creation and I want to thank you on behalf of everyone that enjoys the new graphic 👍
Nice one. One request, could you show us the offset without the shaft lean? I can never really see the offset because you always angle the shaft slightly away from the camera. I can't help it, I am very offset sensitive.
If you don't like looking at offset then this iron is definitely one to test as its very very pleasing to the eye! One of the lowest amounts of offset I've seen on a Players Distance iron, more comon place on Players Cavity or even some Blades 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut Yeah I just looked them up on the vice site, they don't mention offset values, but even the VGI 2 (supposed to be the more forgiving one) offset is very modest on the top down picture, and the VGI 1 downright beautiful
I think it's a really fun option, you can go standard black everything but leaves a bit of wiggle room to spice colour options up. With regards to the Mizunos, I'm a great fan of, if it's not broke don't fix it 😊 👍🏻
Some of the other DTC irons within the same or similar class seem to get their design from the same book as others which leads them to look quite similar on the outside, these are absolutely designed and made by Vice not in China but in Germany so they control the looks much more 👍🏻
I feel like a lot of the DTC companies are getting the same company to make their hollow body players distance irons and simply changing the design and logo on the back. Takomo, Sub70, Costco, Stix, New Level, Caley, etc all seem almost identical. Does this feel the same, or is it a bit more unique in comparison?
I think its a matter of form meets function, you're trying to make the simplest ( aka least expensive) iron that meets certain criteria , and there's not a massive amount of variation in terms of looks you're going to be able to do. The next steps are quality and customer care.
I agree with Andys comment below, it is, very difficult for manufacturers as even thd premium brands seem to be rehashing ideas and designs from years passed... I think I need to do a DTC vs all other DTC video.... 😊👍🏻
£155 per iron for a DTC brand is pushing it, especially when there's no custom fit. Bit of a leap of faith. Being able to buy individual irons is a plus though. Most DTC brands are sub £100 per club which is partly the reason to buy DTC in the first place. £155 is only slightly less than the big brands and I would argue the extra is worth it for the ability to get custom fit. The coloured ferrules are hideous and would put me off looking down at them.
Interesting as, personally I prefer the font on the VGI01 to the 02 irons.... That's more blocky text... Still goes to prove that designers have a horrid time trying to make something that everyone will like.... Subjectivity is a terrible thing 😊😊👍🏻
@MrMatthew262 it definitely a bolder stamp on the back, but I think for the people that really are into the brand that they may well really like it 🤷👍🏻
